Fav's - Ed Fickert

I'm bringing back one of my old favorite featurettes, with one of Maryland's old Favorite son's. Ed has witnessed and contributed to the Baltimore skate scene for longer than anyone I know who is still in it. We have always know eachother and been friends from his time working at Wavedancer in Annapolis. We became family when I picked up a phone on a day I wasn't supposed to be at the shop, the short version is Select had just lost their manager and I was losing my shop so fortunately I was there to take Ed's call.

Here are your Lucky 13 questions -

Favorite Andy Coons injury? Shit, there are so many....I would have to say the time he popped a blood vessel while having sex. His entire crotch area was black and blue for real!!! Pretty amazing actually and if you know Andy it you know it would only happen to him.

Favorite Car you have owned and that you will own? - Right now it is my 99 M Coupe. I havent driven it in 5 months because I am putting a 321hp Euro Motor in it. As far as I know I am the only person to do this swap in North America. Other than that I hope to own a PS Autosport 911 RS replica before I die.

Favorite backyard ramp? - Dan Hopkins vert ramp circa 1984-87. Best memories and thats were I learned and lived vert. Love that era.

Favorite Adam Mullins memory? - By far the time he carved the most realistic wax penis ever created. This guy is the most Homophobic man to ever walk the earth and he doesnt even realize that he is gay. The fact that he has to tell complete strangers how straight he is and how many girls he has had sex with makes it all the better.

Favorite Alex 'Bosco' Picard story? - Lest see, how about the time when he was stoned and working for me at Select by himself. He went into the back courtyard and locked himself out of the shop! Surprisingly enough he had the sense to lock the front door so we did not get looted. I remember yelling at him so bad for it....Hope he learned a lesson.

Favorite year for hip hop? - I don't have a year but more of a time span. 1986 - 1991. After that I would say the Wu-Era.

Favorite Jake Phelps quote? I was fortunate enough to skate with Phelps and Haslam last winter at Culver City in LA. Haslam kept bailing a big spin noseblunt and Phleps rides by him and says "Where's the Cheese and Crackers up in this bitch?" I know a lot of people cant take Phelps, but I love the guys sense of humor. I find myself to be more and more like him every year. For better or worse....

Favorite Jake Mendelson moment? - Spending a long weekend in NYC with him and the Element team. Getting him into Max Fish was fun! It also happens to be during the time when Jake Rupp was still going strong....I miss the old Rupp.

Favorite Baltimore skate memory from each of the past 3 decades? - Powell session with the Bones Brigade at landsdowne and then Hell ramp at night. After that dinner with them at Sabatino's! That had to be 1986. In the 90's It would definitely be the Square in Fells. That was when anything seemed possible with skating in Baltimore. As for now I really love skating in Baltimore, I am having the best time in years. Avalon bowl sessions with the 30 and over crew can only be described as epic. It is all about fun and thats why we all started skating in the first place. It reminds me of my first few years of skating.

Favorite things about Montreal? - THE WOMEN!!!! Skating at the Big O is also the best! Barry and Mark kill that place like no others. Did I mention the women? Also a big shout out to Club Pussy Corps....see you next year!

Favorite skater over 40 and under 20? - Neil Blender. Period. Under 20, damn there are so many. If I had to pick someone I personally know and skate with it would have to be Corey who comes down with the Pitcrew heads on thursday nights. That kid has steez! Just raw talent and style.

Favorite Books? - American Psycho, Rule by Secrecy, Choke.

Favorite Sales rep and why? - I would have to say Dewey Morris. Just because he took the biggest shit in the shop with no shame....It was awful! The whole shop smelled. Other than that it would be Darren O'Brien. He was down for the real shops. With the help he gave us with Nike SB when it was something cool to and truly limited. He helped the shop stay afloat for another 2 years. Thanks D.

**bonus Favorite reason to eat healthy and stay in shape? - A wise man once told me " you are only as old as the girl you are having sex with". Need I say more....it also helps my skating.
