Classic Coke

Keeping it retro this Monday, I came across this 20 year old ad the other day. Sort of inspired by another bloggers love for classic biker photos. Got to blog about what your passions are, true? Can't beat the feeling!

History Channel

Did some archeology last week... uncovered these bushings I purchased from the original FTC (We're talking early 1994) which was located off Van Ness. It was a huge sporting goods store specializing in Golf, Tennis, Watersports and of course one of the hugest skate selections of any shop in that era. They had so many racks of big pants, every brand from that time (like R.E.N., T-Bags, Edward Sebastian) all kinds of smaller companies I never got to see in person on the east coast because of how dead skateboarding was at the time. It was probably the first shop I ever went to that carried 200+ decks at one time. Even though they did all the traditional sports it was still one of the greatest skate shops.

Second Best Contest Ever

I found the original flyers for the second and last illegal underground street contest that Sevenfold put on way back in 02. We tried to repeat the majic of the first, but you should never try that. It rained I had a blast doing powerslides on the banks, and then we took it to the old set up at Hechingers. I believe that day was the last time I really skated with Kyle Jensen, he ruled it that day.

NBA Draft Tonight

That's what I'll be watching, finally got rid of Isiah, I know there are no 33's in this year's draft, but I have a good feeling for the first time since he left the team.

Remember Zip Disks?

Doing a little cleaning today and I found the blueprints for our very first website along with the two disks holding the entire content of it. Speaking of we are currently working on what will be the 3rd incarnation of sevenfoldskateboards.com

Time to Boycott Mid East Oil

These 3 photos are taken of the same street in Dubai. The first photo is from 1993, the second 2003 and the last was taken with in this past year. The point is that all of this rapid development has been made possible by our consumption.

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it.
It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American
goods. We should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money
into the coffers of Saudi Arabia . Just buy from gas companies that
don't import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I
fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to
kill me, my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil
companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies
import Middle Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell..................... ...... 205,7 42,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels

Exxon/Mobil...... . 130,082,000 barrels

Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels

Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo gas is from South America , from a Dictator who hates
Americans. If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to
over $18 BILLION! (oil is now $90 - $100 a barrel).

Here are so me large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Sunoco..................0 barrels

Conoco..................0 barrels

Sinclair..................0 barrels

BP/Phillips.............0 barrels

Hess................ ..0 barrels

ARC0.....................0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy
and each is required to state where t hey get their oil and how much
they are importing.

7 or 11, snake eyes watching you

You know I'm born to lose
and gamblin's made for fools
But that's the way I like it baby
I don't want to live forever
and don't forget the joker
Pushing up the ante, I know you got to see me
read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die
The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be
the Ace of Trucks

A long time ago I used to be a rock photographer, still got the skills. This was the first and only photo I shot of the fishnet stalkers, at the gentei-mini mania show. Matt Gabs is a Rock Icon.

I've had this song (the Tattoo Gardens Version) stuck in my head ever since I shot these photos last week.

This Lousy T-Shirt

So I went to the gentei-red bull mini mania party on Friday night and all I got was this lousy T-shirt (guys take a few steps back from your screen, it becomes clearer on how lousy this shirt really is). Mini Ramp footage should be up later this week.

Sponsor Me, Not

I spent this morning much like I start most of my weekdays, checking emails and monitoring our different web mediums. Watching sponsor me tapes is kind of like my morning coffee. One golden rule of the game came to mind with todays hot pot of truck stop sludge...
1. Sponsor me videos are more of a judge on how your friends film and edit than just a measure of your skateboarding.

Until the Fat Lady Calls the Cops

It's time to free Lansdowne now! We got there last week and even drained the place for them, but some concerned citizen drove up and yelled at me 'the bowl's closed' and then proceeded to somehow manage to get her fat fingers to dial the cops on her cel phone.

I told you Salt Lake has a great scene...

SLUG Magazine’s Summer Of Death “GhettOlympics” July 19th

Hippie High Jump- Just like the limbo, start low, get high (not in the drug sense)! If you knock over the high jump or don’t land on your board, you don’t advance to the next heat. Technical high jumps (high jump shuvits, etc.) are also allowed. There will also be a “Tony Cox” award for most limber high jump.

Triple Jump- The high jump’s big sister. See if you can ollie over (not down) all three obstacles in a row as they gradually get taller.

Synchronized Skating- Consisting of a set of two boxes, a flat rail and a quarterpipe. The team with the best doubles line wins. You must have a homie to enter. Judged on consistency, creativity, and synchronization.

Longest Powerslide- Time to flatspot those wheels! See if you can powerslide clear across the parking lot. Judged in 1/2 foot increments, longest powerslide wins. We may not be checking for steroid use but waxed wheels and “filmer” boards are not allowed!

Most Techgnar Wallride- Bring your reverts, nollie outs, and late shuvits for the most techgnar wallride. Best/most creative wins.

Polejam Pentathlon- Not really a pentathlon but hey, everyone loves alliteration! Pole jam wallies are awesome right? Get creative (next level! next level!) as best trick off the polejam earns the gold!

Best Line- Show us some consistency! One-upping isn’t cool in 2008, we want to see you push and land clean. Most creative/difficult line will put you on the podium.

Scott Archer Coverage

All you really need to know is that I made a deal with Scott this past week, if he did something for the company that he would be off the hook for photos and video for the rest of this month. He did his part of the bargain, so we will keep up ours. Lucky for you fine people I found this photos he sent me last year, enjoy because this is all of Scott you will get in June (unless I dig something else up from his past)

Indy Demo Today!

The only demo I really want to see this summer is going to be at Pit Crew later today, be there.

In a related story...

*Element will be sending Don Vito around to skateshops to 'get a feel' for what kids want for go skateboarding day.

Vincent Margera — better known as Don Vito to viewers of "Viva La Bam" — was arrested in Colorado on Friday and held on suspicion of two counts of sexual assault on a child, according to a spokesperson for Colorado's Lakewood Police Department.

Margera, 50, is suspected of inappropriately fondling or groping 12- and 14-year-old girls during separate incidents at a signing event at Woodward Skatepark at the Colorado Mills mall in Lakewood, Colorado, Friday night. Because the incident involves sexual assault on a child, Lakewood Police spokesperson Steve Davis said he was unable to release much information, but said formal charges would be filed on Wednesday. In the meantime, Margera remains behind bars at the Jefferson County Jail, with no bail being offered, according to a jail spokesperson.

Davis said a cell-phone photo of the alleged crime has been taken into evidence and that the allegation that Margera inappropriately fondled or groped the girls was corroborated by enough witnesses for police to make the arrest. The authorities were tipped off to the alleged crime when someone other than the two juveniles called in to report it, Davis said, declining to elaborate on who made the call. In addition, Davis said Margera, who appeared intoxicated — results from a blood test are not yet available — allegedly made some "very ugly" remarks to the two female officers who arrested him.

*that first sentence is what we call a joke kids, the rest of the story is sadly the truth.

An Unfriendly Reminder

Cutty spot #5

Everything imaginable has ABD here, no point to add my little slash, I'll let your imagination do all the work.

Cutty spot #4

This spot had my name all over it, until I took that slam on the rough landing area...

Cutty spot #3

Across the street from this spot is where the famous Towsend ST. bump used to be back in the day. Now it's gone, but this little spot was super fun.
